Blackwater Culmstock

We have secured detailed planning permission for a replacement residential dwelling in the village of Culmstock, Mid Devon. For this project, we worked closely with the client to develop a new house design that both met their family lifestyle and worked in harmony with their site.

This house will make use of natural building materials throughout. In addition, there is a desire to minimise the use of concrete in the ground for foundations and use natural / healthy finishes both inside and out.

With a fabric first approach, this house will have very low U-values (excellent thermal performance) and care taken with air-tightness detailing.

Due to the location of the site and the client brief, this house will be completely self-sufficient in terms of building services.  The roof shall maximise the potential for electricity generation from PV cells. There will be a borehole for the water supply and all drainage shall be dealt with on site.

To construct this house, a contractor has been chosen who can prefabricate much of the dwelling prior to getting to the site. This will minimise waste in fabrication and speed up the construction process.

Construction has commenced in spring 2024 and we look forward to seeing this dwelling take shape over the next year.
